Pharmacists and Veterinarians have worked together for many years to help
our smallest and largest friends, but never more than in the last decade. New
Federal regulations have created a shortage of vitally needed Veterinary Meds
by making it financially unfeasible for drug manufacturers to produce drugs
and test them for safety and efficacy in each individual species. Veterinarians
can still prescribe drugs and combinations of drugs that are not commercially
available and it is well within the accepted practice of a pharmacist to make
them. Most veterinarians do not have the equipment or the time needed
to prepare these drugs, so they rely on the pharmacist to compound unique strengths
and dosage forms for their patients.
At Millers, we have access to thousands of drugs and chemicals required to address this need. Our compounding experience spans back several decades to a time when Wyckoff was far more rural than today. Among some of our more unusual requests were to build a nebulizer tent and formulate aerosol meds for a parrot, a tetracycline suspension for a frog and a TPN solution for a python.
