The handling of cytotoxic drugs (chemotherapy) requires special equipment and expertise. At Millers we often compound commercial capsules and tablets into oral suspensions.
These medications are often not commercially available this way because they do not last very long in liquid form. In some cases the manufacturers will provide stability information for their drugs when mixed into liquid form. When this information is not available we send our products out for stability testing. Even the addition of a simple flavoring agent can affect the shelf life of a liquid dosage form, so this needs to be tested as well.
We also specialize in topical chemotherapy compounding for conditions like cutaneous lymphoma. The preparation of this requires a special hood, room, and procedure to assure the accuracy of the compound as well as the protection of the technician or Pharmacist.
