Did You Know: How Chlorine Can Affect Your Skin

July 6, 2016 by Kathleen Wolfe

Summer is for being in the water! Splashing, swimming, spraying…. For those of us in natural-made waters like the ocean, lakes, or salt-water pools, our biggest risk is getting “pruney.” But for those of us in chlorinated pools all summer long, it can take a toll on our skin. Staying in the pool for too long can give you dry, chalky skin, and sometimes a red, itchy rash.

Chlorine strips away the surface layer of oil that usually locks the moisture into your skin. You can’t do much about it in the water, but once you leave the pool, you should go straight to the shower and flush the chemicals out of your skin with plenty of soap and water.  And use a good moisturizing lotion to restore some of that lost moisture.

While there are many good choices, we love Ecco Bella’s Organic Water-Free Herbal Lotions – they come in three lovely fragrances: Lavender, Lemon Verbena, and Vanilla. The lotions have a rich water-free formula that relieves skin of dryness, irritation, and flakiness. Water and Gluten-free.
